Troops in Iraqi Base Are Under 'Regular' Fire

Turns out that ISIS isn't completely off the radar.

320 troops at Al Asad air base are under regular mortar and gunfire. What made me laugh in this article was that Col. Steven Warren said that the attacks were 'completely ineffective'.

I pictured him brushing some debris off of his shoulder with a smoldering cigar in his mouth when he said that. Any one else?

Anyhoo,

No troops have been killed or injured as most of the rounds hit near the bases walls and perimeters. But in lighter news, the 1st Infantry Division is training 4 battalions of Iraqi men in a 'asses and respond' manner.

Pretty cool, no? Looks like there are a few small victories in Iraq amidst the crazy. What do you think? Comment below, let me know!

  1. Haha. yeah thats funny. I think that this military training is important to combat ISIS. It would be great if the Iraqi Government could deal with problems like this in the future without outside help.;

  2. Military superiority is a great thing to have. But, we need to use it strategically and with ample forethought, or the war can end up like Vietnam, and billions will be spent on a war that is lengthy and unpopular at home.

  3. thats good stuff! take that ISIS! Like David though when I heard about troops being sent to Iraq I was worried that a scenario like Vietnam would turn up but so far I have to say I'm impressed with how it has been dealt with. We're not doing all the fighting but doing more training and advising in order to help the Iraqi troops fight ISIS alone. I think the reason it's been better because it's not as huge as the Vietnam situation, we've learned from Vietnam, and we don't have something we're necessarily fighting for like resources or ideologies but in order to help Iraq.
