Any way, back to the North Korea and Sony debacle. Apparently North Korea didn't like the new rules that the US put on her.
"North Korea lashed out at the United States on Sunday, calling a new set of recently levied economic sanctions repugnant and hostile.
"The policy persistently pursued by the U.S. to stifle (North Korea), groundlessly stirring up bad blood towards it would only harden its will and resolution," a statement attributed to North Korea's Foreign Ministry said."
Clearly we are stepping on some toes here. But do you think that North Korea is more like a spoiled child and will just pitch a temper tantrum until a parent or friend just smacks him to get him to stop? Because in the video that is linked to the article says that they would like help from the outside world in addition to nuclear weapons 'for good'. How does the latter even work?
Anyway, I think that Korea is justified in feeling this way, as would any country that is having sanctions imposed on them, but they do deserve them so my empathy is less than the justice side of me.
What do you think? Comment below, let me know!
I think there's a lot more that we could be doing, that we aren't. Of course NK doesn't appreciate being sanctioned but...it's our right to sanction them. If they aren't complying with world-wide standards on human rights, then they should understand that the consequences are going to be painful.
ReplyDeleteSanctions examlify one of our most effective wepons, being able to shoke the economies of foreign nations. It's really all we can do about North Korea, short of attacking them, but, poverty rates and starving people in North Korea will just increase the more we sanction, so the innocent pay a price too.
