Owens v. Love

Owens v. Love

So we've been talking about these campaigns for a while now and to be honest I haven't been following things anywhere outside of school, so when the topic is brought up I'm pretty lost which is why I wanted to do an article on it. If you want to read the one I read then Click here.

Anyhoo,

I thought it was cool how they were almost in a tie. I thought it especially cool because of Owens democratic stance. I don't really favor any part as you probably all know, (most likely because I don't really care as much) but I do find it awesome that some people of Utah aren't voting off of parties. Another point I found odd was when the article said that the Salt Lake Tribune had had a professional poll reviewer look over the two polls and said that they were both legitimate even thought they drew two very different conclusions. I would assume that this would be something about the margin of error and who they polled and where they were located and how old they were as we talked about in class. I just found the article interesting and cool to read even though I don't really care who wins! Best of luck to both candidates.

  1. I think it more likely that the difference in results originated from the question asked than the demographic polled. After all, if the issue was the demographic, then the poll-reviewer would definitely not have declared both equally legitimate! Probably the big issue is that Love's poll included all candidates, whereas Owen's poll encompassed only him and Love. With only 2 options, it is only logical that the two halves would be considerably closer.

  3. Orkothar has a point. A lot of people don't know about the candidates to begin with. Personally I don't think that Love has the credentials for the house of reps and I think she is kind of nuts. I dunno that's just what I think and what I have heard.

  4. Cameron, I agree. Thank heaven that not every citizen votes a straight partisan ticket. That tells me that at least some of our citizens make an effort to be informed and vote the way they personally want to be represented. Hopefully someday the percentage of citizens that realize that will be greater than the percentage with the overly insane partisan wackos.

  5. Mia Love is an inadequate candidate, it's that simple. The only reason she is still in the race at all is because she is the Republican running for office in Utah, and she has all sorts of funding from republican politicians and interest groups. Why does she have so much support and funding?, the only office she ever held was mayor of Saratoga Springs. She's in this race because she has benefactors with big wallets and political agendas that she'll have to fulfill if she wants to be supported ever again. It's depressing more people don't see her as the inadequate candidate she is, and ignore party loyalty, otherwise this race wouldn't even be a contest.
